Access

I used to treat access like a neutral condition: either you have it or you don’t. The problem is that access also has a mood. It can be present and still feel temporary.

This site isn’t a story about fixing anything. It’s a record of what changed when something stopped opening, and what changed again when it finally did.

Locked state

Held outside

Locked doesn’t mean dramatic. It can be ordinary: a refusal so quiet you almost miss it, until you notice you’ve been standing in the same place for too long.

Unlocked state

Let through

Unlocked doesn’t mean safe. It can be a permission you don’t understand, given back without explanation, leaving you to wonder what else was adjusted while you waited.
